Or Bethesda's characters (one thing I found Bethesda is good about in general, female representation. Rockstar actually did way better with Sadie. I wouldn't really use CDPR as my favorite developer when it comes to female characters honestly. I mean it just seemed very obvious they were pandering to guys with their female characters and if you were a woman and enjoyed it we were just an afterthought and not their main target. Just cause it was so absurd to do that in the game. At the same time I admit I did go for trying to have Geralt have sex on top of a stuffed unicorn. Especially as how it seems one of the main things of the game is to see who you can have sex with (yes, they do call you out on it if you play the field though, that's nice). I know that's written in the story that way but it still is annoying (to me it says something of the story material they chose). I mean sometimes I could really appreciate their character but mostly they felt like they were there for eye candy for guys. Honestly, not going to be a popular opinion but too sexualized honestly. This really isn't a big deal to me, I just find that social issues like this make for interesting discussion. I am loving it more than I have enjoyed an RPG in a long, long time. I guess I'm also not sure what's considered respectful representation for women by women, and I'd like to hear some genuine thoughts on the matter.ĭon't get me wrong, the Witcher 3 is an INCREDIBLE game. I don't know if I was just jumping on the fact that they were sexy characters too quickly to form a judgement, or if this situation is complex and CD Projekt Red and the writer of the Witcher series simply got some things right, and some things wrong. Afterwards, there are a set of four dialogue options that you can choose with her, and if you ask too many questions about the corpse before asking if she's okay, she'll jump on Geralt for being thoughtless. You can protest, but she'll do it anyways regardless as to what you say to her. They'll even call Geralt out when he's being thoughtless or pigheaded.įor example, in Skellige, when you're looking for Ciri, there's a point in which Yennifer will resurrect a corpse and force it to speak. It's not that BioWare-esque fantasy of "I can make a female character do whatever I want if I just pick the right dialogue options," and beyond that, they're strong, multi-dimensional characters. Despite this being a choice-based RPG, there are scenarios where the love interests can tell you no or defy you no matter what you say to them. The more that I played, though, the more that I found a complexity to the characters that I don't often seen in other games. I dunno, it felt like they were written in like they were there to satisfy the male fantasy. The scene with Ciri in the Sauna, the various sex scenes with Yen and Triss, the rather tight apparel. I enjoyed them as characters, but a lot of the scenes in the game felt like they were clearly catering to men. How do women feel about The Witcher 3's main female characters? This is my first playthrough, and for most of the game, they've seemed like hyper-sexualized male fantasy women. I know that it's not exactly my place to be talking about women in games, but the subject has had me in thought lately. I'm going to put that out there right now. Hopefully these improvements continue in Cyberpunk and whatever CDPR work on next. That being said you also have great characters like Cerys who aren't sexualized and actually play an active role in the game as an equal to the Witcher so there are some noticeable improvements. Some of the character designs are not amazing (I really would've preferred Ciri wear some armor like that design in the first page), and some of the writing can be a little problematic (see the Iron Maiden quest). Witcher 3 is better although still not perfect by any means. There's also the case of Ves, who's probably has the worst design out of any character in the series. The amount of objectification in Witcher 2 really made me feel the game was pandering towards horny men. Witcher 2 was better in some ways but there's still a lot of really weird stuff in there (see that one awful conversation you can have with the female elven archer in vergen where almost all the dialogue choice are horribly sexist). ![]() Witcher 1 was incredibly awful with the myriads of women who wanted to sleep with the player as well as the awful "sex cards" crap. ![]() 1’, ‘Nymphomaniac Vol.FWIW this is something the Witcher games have been progressively getting better at.
